The winter of 2019 was one of the largest in years for Yosemite. It wasn't just that there was a lot of snow, but the fact that there was so much snow at lower elevations, that was unusual. For days I made new work in Yosemite Valley in storybook conditions. The trees and cliffs were cloaked in snow for weeks. I had attempted to get to the south rim to photograph Horsetail Fall, but was hampered by road closures and impossible waist deep snow. I headed to my spot on the Merced River and was mesmerized with the combination of light and snow the likes of which I have never seen.
