The quartz monzonite of the Alabama Hills conrasts sharply with the soaring granite cliffs of the highest peak in the lower 48. Lone Pine Peak dominates the foreground. This was a cold morning. My tea froze on the tailgate of the truck as I was focusing the 4x5 camera! I love these kinds of places in the Eastern Sierra. You can spend days exploring the maze of rocks, caves, and creeks... and still not see it all!
